MAIDEN LAGOS STATE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH CONFERENCE 2021

The Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) has a clear insight about her role in supporting economic development and stability in Lagos State -a massive responsibility of shared commitment and participation amongst stakeholders for OSH improvements which is also employed as the proactive approach needed for COVID_19 management and adaptation to the new normal. The increasing impact of workplace crisis requires new thinking, approaches, and scale to build resilience against emergencies.

Since evolving as a global crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic has had unfathomable effects everywhere and impacted negatively on every aspect of the world of work; from the risk of transmission at all levels especially in workplaces, to the resultant Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) risks at mitigating the spread of the virus. Modifications to new working arrangements, reliance on teleworking etc. have presented many opportunities for workers but also posed potential OSH threats such as psychosocial, ergonomics risk factors and mental issues in particular arising from the pandemic.

Occupational Safety and Health approaches with indications that quality of life is a function of the quality of working life and prioritizing people’s wellbeing at all workplaces should be a mainstay of productivity and economic success which further drives the actualization of the THEMES agenda.

In light of this, the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) an agency of Government established by law and responsible for the co-ordination of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as all relevant bodies on all matters relating to safety in all socioeconomic sectors of Lagos State is organizing the Maiden edition of The Lagos State Occupational Safety & Health Conference with the theme “Anticipate, prepare and respond to crises - Invest Now in Resilient Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Systems”to commemorate this year’s “World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2021”- a global event celebrated on the 28 th of April every year.  The aim is to create awareness, sensitize and educate the people on the need to ensure workplace safety, improve health and well-being as well as reduce the economic burden of poor working conditions.
